What are Central Victorian Brides Wearing in 2005
The bridal industry
is perceived as elegant,
exciting and exquisite, although at times it can be
very stressful and entails much emotion - with 35
years industry experience, Poppy's Bridal Couture
dressmaker, Cheryl Garsed shares her views, knowledge
and expertise.
Cheryl has been designing
and dressmaking since she learnt to sew
as a young girl. It all began when a very passionate
Cheryl joined a ladies high fashion company in Melbourne
where she worked in a creative environment designing
formal wear.
Pursuing her passion to this
day, Cheryl
spends countless hours with brides throughout central
Victoria to help create their dream gown.
She
helps brides decidewhether they want a
modern or traditional design, to wear a veil or not
to and what colour combinations to choose for the
big day.
With her skills in precision
cutting, intricate beading, superb fabric
selection and friendly, fuss free helpful service,
Cheryl can turn your dreams into a reality.
Today's
brides have been more courageous with their
colour and style choices in the past few years. "They
are willing to try something different and choose
something unique or sometimes they will go for a traditional
style, but in a different colour".
"I think its great when people
add their own special touches like that".
Red, mint green and pink have been the most popular
colours for bridesmaids in recent times. Strapless
designs are still very popular, fashionable and stylish.
"Bridesmaids dresses tend to be simple, so the women
can wear the dress again and either dress it up or
dress it down to suit another occasion".
"I
let the girls try on what they like or what
they think will suit them but if its not right,
I just ask them to try a dress I'd like to see
on them".
"This is a good way of opening their mind a
little and trying something they may not have
thought of"
."I'm always very honest, so if the dress they
are trying on isn't perfect, I will tell them
so, because the last thing I want is for them
to regret their decision".
"The idea is to create a dress that they will
not want to take off at the end of the day".

Tips
Of course, your hair colour, complexion and eye colour
determines what colour will suit you best.
White or ivory just doesn't work on some people, but
you may find that an ice blue colour looks great.
If you have pale skin, you may look washed out in
white. However, those with dark or olive skin can
really show off in pure white.
Purple, lilac, mauve and greens look great on red-haired
brides.
Always put your shoes on before the dress to avoid
crushing the dress unnecessarily.
It is important to step into your gown to avoid messing
up your hair or smudging your make-up.
Keep in mind that just because you like a certain
style or colour does not necessarily mean that it
will suit you.
Make sure that you are comfortable in your dress.
"You want to be able to reflect on the day with really
fond memories, rather than let your memories be dominated
by how much your feet hurt, or how you had to suck
your tummy in all day". If you feel comfortable about
yourself, you will radiate that happiness on the day
with your glow and your smile.
Your wedding gown needs to be your dram gown - no
matter how much it costs or what style it is.
Remember, choosing your dress is an exciting and happy
time.
Don't forget the back of the dress. The back must
look as good as the front. It is important, because
your guests will be looking at the back of you during
the entire ceremony, which is possibly the longest
they will be looking at you all day.
If you're not happy with parts of your body, you can
choose a style that will camouflage trouble spots
or choose a design feature that will take the focus
away from that area.
Generous Bust - Emphasis your waist with a fitted
design or include a special feature such as beading
on the waist rather than around the bust line.
Wide Hips - Go for a full skirt and a fitted bodice.
This will emphasis your waist, making you look as
though you have a gorgeous hourglass figure.
Larger Midriff - Draping around the waist can hide
a multitude of sins and you won't have to hold your
tummy in all day.
So,
the idea is to show off your best bits and camouflage
any lumps and bumps. But remember no-one ever notices
any flaws on a happy, confident bride.
