Blooming
Lovely
Story from I Do I Do Creations Magazine Issue 1
Where
To Begin
Flowers should reflect your individuality
and enhance the overall theme of your
wedding. When choosing a florist, it is
important that they understand the 'look'
that you want to create. A good florist
will be well organised, creative and a
good communicator.
Decisions,
Decisions
When choosing your bridal bouquet consider
the style, colour and material of your
gown and most importantly your wedding
theme. It is essential to choose a bouquet
which complements not only your gown but
your bridesmaids gowns as well. Make an
appointment with your florist, sit down,
look through magazines and pictures, and
discuss different flowers, colours and
styles. To assist your florist in helping
you choose a style and theme take along
pictures and any fabric swatches of your
chosen gowns and style for the entire
bridal party. It is amazing how creative
you can be when a professional is helping
you along the way and how much easier
it can be.
The Bottom
Dollar
When it comes to cost, various factors
affect the price, the type of flowers,
if they are in season or not, the varieties
used and also the quality. Other factors
to consider are the size of the bridal
party, if you require church, garden or
reception arrangements, even down to having
fresh flowers in your hair or an attractive
accessory to your wedding cake.
On average your costs would start at around
$500.00
Some Handy
Hints
Some florists are booked out months in
advance so I suggest you start early.
Consult with a florist at least six months
prior, if possible, to research your options.
Think of the climate; choose flowers
that are well suited to the season you
have chosen and standard weather conditions
for that time of year. If you are planning
a summer, some flowers will not withstand
the heat.
Ensure your florist has all the finer
details correct, time, address for them
to be delivered, and the time your photographer
is due to arrive. Your flowers should
be delivered one hour prior to your photographer
arriving.
Do not handle the bouquets too much as
some flowers can bruise easily. It is
best to leave them in the packaging they
arrived in until you need them. Never
put your flowers in the fridge, even in
hot weather.
Keep a water atomizer handy, water sprayed
on flowers looks fantastic in photos and
keeps them fresh.
Flowers make your whole wedding come
alive so take your time, listen to advice
and choose wisely.
Favourite flowers used at the moment
are roses and oriental lilies. Phalenopsis
orchids, lisianthus and tulips are also
becoming more and more popular. Berries,
twigs, dodda vine and tropical leaves
are also great to use for something a
little different.
One Last
Thought
Flowers say it all, they really do make
an impacting complement to your whole
wedding, so be a little lavish and a little
indulgent and you won't be disappointed
on the day.
